Bhutan King’s Scholarship at the University of Cambridge is available to Masters-level applicants from Bhutan.  It is tenable at any College. The scholarship is offered in partnership with The Kidu Foundation.

The Kidu Foundation in Bhutan was created as a response to the generous donations received after the establishment of the Kidu Fund under the Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon (Office for People’s Welfare and Wellbeing). This fund aimed to help those affected by natural disasters in Bhutan in 2009.

The Kidu Foundation aims to support the government’s efforts in addressing key issues in education, the rule of law, democracy and media, sustainable economic development, and the preservation of Bhutan’s environmental and cultural heritage.

In Bhutanese tradition, ‘Kidu’ or the well-being of the people is a Royal Prerogative, which is now also enshrined in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan as a fundamental responsibility of His Majesty the King. Throughout Bhutan’s history, the monarchy has prioritized serving the people, including providing for the most vulnerable members of society.

The Foundation collaborates with the Trust to offer the Bhutan King’s Scholarship at the University of Cambridge. This one-year scholarship is available to Bhutanese citizens seeking Master’s degrees. While applicants can pursue any academic subject, preference is given to fields like education, law, journalism, economics, management, public policy, international relations, political science, engineering, mathematics, science, environmental studies, public health, and medicine.
