Project Manager at Drug Innovation Group (DIG) – Jobs In Ghana

Job Description

The Drug Innovation Group (DIG) is a team of scientists at the University of Ghana (UG) working on developing new medicines. The group is located in the Frank Tortor Building within the Department of Chemistry. DIG is part of a malaria drug discovery project called the Grand Challenges African Drug Discovery Accelerator (GC-ADDA), which involves eight African institutions and international partners. The project is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and LifeArc. DIG is hiring a Project Manager for a 3-year contract.

Job Summary

The main role of this position is to support research teams in planning and implementing drug discovery activities. This includes helping DIG/GC-ADDA teams develop project plans and ensuring effective communication within the team and with external partners. The Project Manager will also assist in planning and executing various research-related activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in a scientific discipline.
  • 3 years of project management experience in translational research.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication between scientific and non-scientific staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, computer skills, and organizational abilities.
  • Motivated team player with the ability to work independently when needed.

Advantages

  • Knowledge of scientific disciplines related to drug discovery (chemistry/pharmacology/biology, etc.) is a plus.
  • Advanced planning and tracking skills, including the use of project management tools.

Responsibilities

Project Management and Planning:

  • Work with project teams to create and maintain project goals.
  • Coordinate project review meetings, including annual scientific management and advisory board meetings.

Research Operations:

  • Plan scientific exchange visits and program various meetings and events.
  • Identify and address challenges in daily workflows.
  • Promote the use of DIG/GC-ADDA SharePoint and CDD Vaults for knowledge management.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Track the progress of key projects and coordinate monthly scientific reports.
  • Assess the effectiveness of solutions and processes.
  • Facilitate project close-out sessions to capture lessons learned.
