The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship 2024 2025

The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship aims to support well-rounded education, nurturing future leaders and fostering talent development for the betterment of society.

Components of the Scholarship:

  1. Comprehensive Financial Award:
    • Tuition Fee Waiver covering the standard study period on a UGC-funded basis.
    • Overseas Learning Allowance, with a maximum of HK$80,000 for up to two trips.
    • Living Allowance* of HK$38,000, subject to verified financial or special education needs.

*Note: A scholar eligible for the Living Allowance won’t receive it during an exchange program/learning trip funded by the Overseas Learning Allowance.


  1. Permanent resident of Hong Kong.
  2. Full-time Year 1 undergraduate student in a UGC-funded program.
  3. Year GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.3 with all letter grades available.
  4. Demonstration of leadership abilities and commitment to positive social change.
  5. Applicants or nominees must undergo task assessment and attend selection interviews.

If awarded, scholars must meet Renewal Requirements annually for continuous entitlement to the Scholarship.

Documents for Application:

  1. Completed application form.
  2. A copy of the CityU academic report (AIMS version acceptable) and certificate(s) of public exams.
  3. Valid proof (e.g., letters issued by the activity organization) demonstrating leadership abilities and commitment to positive social change.

Application Methods and Deadlines

  1. Open-application method: submit an application form with supporting documents to directly by 2 June 2024. Late application or incomplete submission will NOT be considered.
  2. Nomination method: to be nominated by your College/School/Department. The deadline is set by the respective College/School/Department.


  1. Demonstrating Leadership and Social Commitment:
    • Applicants/nominees must provide valid proof (as much as possible) showcasing their leadership abilities and commitment to making positive social change at the time of application/nomination.
  2. Selection Interview Attendance:
    • Shortlisted candidates MUST attend selection interview(s) in person, scheduled for late June 2023 and late August 2023. Candidates unable to attend the interview in person will NOT be considered for the Scholarship.
  3. Coaching Workshops Requirement:
    • Shortlisted candidates are required to attend coaching workshops aimed at enhancing their statement writing and interviewing skills if invited.
