If you’re offered this scholarship, you need to say yes or no by a certain deadline. If you say yes, you have to start your studies by a certain date mentioned in the offer letter.

Here are some rules about the scholarship:

  • You can study part-time or full-time, but if you’re part-time, it’s only if you can’t do full-time.
  • You have to study in certain places unless the scholarship committee says it’s okay.
  • The scholarship lasts for one year or until you finish your thesis, whichever comes first. You can only get it in your first year of doing your thesis.
  • If you delay starting your studies by two months or more, you might get the scholarship for a shorter time.
  • You can’t use the scholarship to study outside New Zealand.

Here are some rules about what you can earn while you have the scholarship:

  • You can’t have another scholarship that’s worth more than half of what you get from this one. Other special grants for research or travel don’t count as scholarships.
  • If you’re a full-time student with this scholarship, you can’t work more than 10 hours a week for a year. Other than that, you can earn as much as you want as long as you’re doing well in your studies.
  • If you work at the University of Otago, you can’t get this scholarship.
  • The scholarship only covers tuition fees for your thesis course, not any extra classes you take. It makes the tuition cheaper but doesn’t cover everything for international students.
